Call for submissions!
Writer friends! Bona Books, who you may remember from their debut anthology last year, I Want that Twink Obliterated, are open again for submissions for their new anthology, Wrath Month.
From their website:
We’re seeking fantasy, science-fiction, and horror short stories that embrace punk and queer rage. There’s a glass ceiling in SFF representation, and we want you to throw a brick through it. Bring us the coven that burned Salem and your roaring bear-serkers. We want gangs of acid-wash werewolves, furious bipyromancers, flesh-eating femmes, and vengeant celestial bois—a cast of the downtrodden who make ruins of their oppressors. Wrath lies at the heart of queer liberation—it can be a spur to action and the only righteous response to a world that would prefer we didn’t exist. So crash mainframes, collapse empires, and break normativity. Pride month is over. It’s time for— Wrath Month
I chatted to the team at MCM London last year, and they were super cool. I really love the work they're doing, and you can submit/learn more here:

Hey, gang! I'm excited to announce I've got a new short story traditionally published in Bona Books' new anthology, I Want That Twink Obliterated!
"Hazard Pay" is a pulp fantasy yarn about a transmasc gentleman thief who must take an ever-so-difficult job and climb a lich's tower. It's a little bit He-Man, a little bit Nimona, and a big bit Queer As Fuck.
It's coming out Summer 2024- I can't give an exact date, but if you want to keep tabs on the news, subscribe to my mailing list. Alternatively, if you want to make sure you've got a copy, you can simply...

revisiting crassus, clodius, and the bona dea scandal! but this time with a new composition and a limited color palette
originally when I drew the first version of this idea, it was back when I thought that crassus would be a week long fixation at most (lmao), and instead he just. took up permanent residence in my mind. it seemed like a fun thing to go back to an earlier idea and see what changed now that I've spent a lot more time with everyone involved in this era!
also the way these two interlocked politically. I am. biting into it.
The Defeat of Rome: Crassus, Carrhae and the Invasion of the East, Gareth C. Sampson
Crassus: the First Tycoon, Peter Stothard
Crassus: A Political Biography, B. A. Marshall
Crassus, Clodius, and Curio in the Year 59 B.C., Robert J Rowland, Jr.
bsky ⭐ pixiv ⭐ pillowfort ⭐ cohost
#for example. i even know who catulus and caelius are now. i did Not know who the fuck they were when i drew the original one#now im like. wow. those sure were some allegations. goddamn#i forgot that ive drawn crassus and clodius fucking before. i'll revisit that someday. ANYWAY. time for some organizational tags#marcus licinius crassus#publius clodius pulcher#roman republic tag#do i. have a tag for the bona dea scandal. i should#drawing tag#ALSO the first tycoon book. it's not a good reference point. i disagree with uhhh like a good third of it. BUT it is an EXTREMELY sexy#read. i would love an HBO show using this book as a point of inspiration. im not kidding. id watch it so fast#i was reading something that implied clodius role in the bona dea scandal was actually partially crassus' machinations#to undermine both caesar AND pompey. and once i finish digesting THAT thought. i will. draw a comic probably

Ugh, I feel so conflicted about Good Omens all the time now - like, every time you see a piece of fanart I've reblogged, just assume there's a solid minute of indecision about queuing it.
Part of me wants s3 to get canceled (and s2 of Sandman as well) and everyone to just forget about his cultural impact, because it would fucking serve him right. Part of me is like, well, these things don't just represent fame and money to him, they're jobs for hundreds of other people, and a big break for at least one or two - plus it's Terry Pratchett's legacy, supposedly the plot they'd worked out together. And then I get suspicious of myself and accuse myself of only wanting to see how GO was going to be wrapped up.
#there's also a part of me that's like#okay#can the people who've made cases for not even being active in HP fandom now turn their attentions to NG?#because I have seen very very little addressing of the fact that he was able to do this in large part because of his fandom#because of his position as A Creator and because of the bona fides he developed through his work of being a Good Guy#and I feel like if you're a fan of any of this shows/books you really really ought to be grappling with this right now!#neil gaiman#good omens

Elle préfère le silence, et saisir avec son pinceau la mélancolie des existences, dont rien ne reste ou presque, que le souvenir des instants, heureux ou malheureux, mais dont le caractère éphémère fait tout le prix.

the way this fic builds the tension so gradually that you genuinely DONT EXPECT IT when it SNAPS on you oh my god. oh my god. "that careful character of terus was not returning." followed by "yesterday was thursday, isari." guess ill just. guess ill just jump off the fucking roof. guess ill jsut rip my shirt open and yell
#i wish i could explaint o my husband why this is making me like sick. physically ill#AGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH#sorry i wouldnt normally even talk about reading a fic on here but its. very very long. im on i think chapter 32 of 47?#and theyre long chapters. im reading basically a wholeass book right now#multiple books even#and ive never read a fic structured like this in my life#normally if theyre going to make a character insufferable they have to work on rectifying it within a chapter or two#like an apology to the reader#no im 32 in and ritsu is the worst. the worst. hes literally becoming a bona fide villain. its insane#ive never read a fic like this before. jesus christ dude#im still reeling from. from the fact that they were both at the mall and that was hours of reading ago

the good thing about 1st person narration, especially when written in a form of recollection/memoir is that when the author for the 16th time in so many chapters reminds you of something the character did/how he came in possesion of something you can squint your eyes and magnanimously assume the narrating character is just a git in love with his own voice
#nothing important#empire of silence#ah yes the ring. the ring on the chain on my neck. the one I stole back. that ring. from the scrapyard guys. the one that's my#bona fide passport. which I stole back from those guys. that one#it also helps tremendously every time I roll my eyes hard on some bits of characterisation#bc I can also just mercifully assume he's trying to portray himself in a better light than it reality#tbf I am enjoying this book#I like the audiobook narrator#books stuff

All-Time Favorite Trailers: 'Little Children'
A lot of movie trailers are scored with certain kinds of music to where certain themes are used over and over in them such as the ones from “Black Rain” and “Requiem for a Dream.” But for the “Little Children” trailer, however, the images we see are instead scored to the sound of a locomotive train which is about to reach its desired destination, and it proves to be the perfect illustration of…

Look, I love Harrow but nothing will be funnier than the first book spending an entire chapter on hyping her up as this Erzebet Bathory of necromancy, a bona fide sadist who's a subject of cultish adoration, and when she appears you can hear the Drearburh bell go dun-dun-duuun-you're-fuuuuuucked, everyone drops into awed whispers and kisses the ground and her blacker-than-evil-itself robe sweeps the floor soooo majestically.... and then she opens her mouth and you go, 'Oh. It's Regina George. Because of course it is. Because this is narrated by a literal teenager.'
